Kestrel Attorneys Inc. is a fictional law firm. This website is a concept built by CodeLab One to show what a law firm website can look like. Please do not send personal information or details of a legal matter through it, because there is no firm on the other side to act on them.

The notice below shows how a real firm would explain its handling of personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Where it describes this website, it is accurate.

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it does not store anything you type into it. The case matcher runs entirely in your browser and nothing you select is sent anywhere.

If you choose to contact the firm by email, telephone or WhatsApp, the information you send is handled by that service, not by this website.

A law firm processes personal information to take instructions, run conflict checks, comply with its obligations under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, give advice, act in legal proceedings and send accounts. It processes only the information needed for those purposes.

Where a matter requires it, personal information may be shared with counsel, courts, the Deeds Office, sheriffs, experts and other parties involved in the matter, and with regulators where the law requires. It is not sold or used for marketing by third parties.

Client files are kept for as long as the law and the rules of the legal profession require, and then destroyed securely.

Under POPIA you may ask what personal information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its processing in certain circumstances. Requests go to the information officer, who for the purposes of this concept is Naledi Mokoena, a director of the firm.

If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforeg.org.za.
